WHAT IS DRY LINING?
Dry lining (sometimes referred to as drylining, or as drywalling) is a type of finishing or cladding for internal walls or ceilings. This is known as a ‘dry’ application because plasterboard is used in place of the traditional plaster finish. Dry lining is used to create a smooth, paint-ready surface and is ideal for retail fit-ups, domestic interiors, or office partitioning.
WHY USE DRY LINING?
Interior brickwork will normally require cladding before finishing and decoration can take place. Traditionally this has been provided by plasterers who will apply a ‘wet lining’ to the wall to create a smooth finish, which then has to be left to dry for anything up to a week before painting. Dry lining, by comparison, can be attached to the brickwork in a matter of hours, provides a naturally smooth surface, and can be quickly and easily prepared for decorating.
The plasterboard material which is used in dry lining comes in a range of thicknesses, widths and lengths, making it a flexible and adaptable alternative to traditional methods. Alterations to the dry ling cladding are relatively quick and easy, whereas a plaster finish requires a complete re-application if change is required. Dry lining can increase thermal insulation and be used to prevent condensation.
